project

Morgan Stanley Dean Witter

brief

Morgan Stanleyís Fixed Income Division needed a good looking, useful web-based information tool and resource access point to unify several disparate departments and numerous information sources. It had to be more sophisticated than competitive offerings in appearance and functionality. The systemís design needed to allow for significant future expansion and serve the internal users (traders) and external users (high net worth clients).

solution

Since the user needs were so different, Core77 used extensive focus groups, user workshops and testing to prioritize and help establish the underlying information architecture. The research determined that the target users were comfortable with dense layouts of information, and they needed a tool to monitor accounts and guide investment strategies.

Core 77 led the content strategy, labeling the site the Internet Trading Environment and naming many of the content areas to fit in with the creative direction. The aesthetic treatment portrayed the complex and exciting nature of international finance.

Defining clear priorities among the large quantities of data available within the application was key to the success of this project. A simplified info arch helped organize the workflow, and therefore the interface, allowing a global implementation in a short time frame. Core77 developed a set of page templates for serving content, and documented the unified graphic system to allow for the IT department to implement future sections on their own.
