The Core-stellation of Services

Web Development

Web development demands a multi disciplinary team and process, and Core77 has strong in-house resources and numerous relationships with external technology providers. This allows us to effectively handle projects ranging from small site updates to full application design and development. While primarily focusing on front end work, we play well with others, including in-house IT departments and external vendors.

To ensure development of the most appropriate application for a client, we typically address three areas – business strategy, user experience and technology design. We seek to integrate the needs and requirements from all three areas into holistic and long term solutions for clients, creating valuable assets and lasting relationships.

Information Architecture

As the complexities of interactive applications increase, a rigorous approach to analyzing, organizing and prioritizing the amount of information available to us becomes critical. Thorough user research and documentation leads to solid design requirements, laying the foundation for a successful design program.

We often work with internal client resources; target users, project managers, marketing and technology directors, to assist us in the research and exploration process. These efforts help clarify information and functional elements, and define the relationships and groupings that create a framework to build upon.

Graphic Design

All projects have a public face (some more public than others) and more often than not that face is graphic. We behave ourselves, but often push our clients to be more daring than they otherwise might have been. Truth be told: we feel it is our job to deliver the unexpected. After all, the reason why people hire us is to produce something that they would not be able to produce themselves.

Our projects range from fairly straight corporate work to fairly wild event-based work, and run the gamut from animations to logos to identities to CD-ROMs to collateral and promotional materials, both screen-based and printed. Inspired graphic design threads its way through everything we do, and we consider it to be one of the hallmarks of Core77.

Content Strategy

In the course of our projects we’re often called on to provide writing, editorial and nomenclature services, in addition to overall content direction. This involves working with marketing and communications departments, writers, illustrators and photographers under tight deadlines and budgets.

Understanding our clients’ needs and the needs of their audiences is fundamental to creating content that has strong character and resonance. Our work at Core77.com and Coroflot.com involve all these skills on an ongoing basis, keeping our chops fresh.

Strategy

All business initiatives have a beginning, middle and end, and common to all is strategy. In the beginning you want to get it right. In the middle you want to be nimble enough to respond to changing market forces. At the end you need to have measurable results. Strategy is like choreography – it has to be well considered and relies on inspired execution to show its brilliance.

At Core77 we thrive on knock down, drag out discussions to define strategy. We obsess on strategy. Do we profit from it? Sometimes. Does the client? Always.

Physical Computing

Physical computing synthesizes and extends client brands by integrating environmental elements, physical and interactive components to produce results ranging from pure entertainment to thoughtful introspection. It also provides the missing link between electronic initiatives (usually web sites) and tangible environments, such as retail or trade shows.

These projects leverage the Industrial Design background of Core77, and typically involve sourcing and coordinating the efforts of numerous disparate outside services such as fabricators, digital artists, multimedia consultants, technology experts and event coordinators.

Interface Design

A successful interface should be usable, seductive, satisfying. It should also communicate multiple messages while simultaneously helping users achieve their goals. Interfaces should continually inspire confidence in users, and should make them feel smart.

Core77 uses an iterative design process encompassing client presentations and user testing to inform our decisions and confirm or refute our instincts. Sometimes design is a moving target. Market conditions and client strategies can change, and we’re not afraid to start over.
